Udupi, June 25: Due to the torrential rains lashing the Agumbe Ghat section along National Highway 169A—which connects Malpe and Thirthahalli—the Udupi district administration has taken safety precautions to prevent potential disasters.

As heavy vehicle movement amid downpours poses a severe threat of causing roadside landslides, Udupi District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Swaroopa T.K. has issued an official order banning the movement of heavy vehicles through the Agumbe Ghat till September 30.

The restrictive directive has been enforced under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Section 221 (A)(2)(5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The order clarifies that during this monsoon containment period, only light motor vehicles will be permitted to ply through the Agumbe Ghat stretch.

To manage the flow of traffic without disrupting supply chains and public travel, the district administration has earmarked explicit alternative routes for heavy vehicles traveling to and from the coastal region.
