Udupi, March 29, 2026: In a significant move against organized crime, the Udupi police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (KCOCA) against three individuals involved in a cattle theft case under the Ajekar police station limits. The accused, identified as Mohammed Yunis (31), Mohammed Iqbal alias Ikku (29), and Nasir alias Mohammed Nasir (28), have been re-arrested following the implementation of the act.

Background of the Case: The incident occurred on the night of September 29, 2025, at the residence of Jayashree Poojari in Hadiyangadi, Shirlalu village. The accused reportedly barged into the cattle shed and attempted to steal three cattle valued at approximately ₹35,000. When the family members intervened, the suspects threatened them with machetes before fleeing with the livestock in a vehicle. A case was subsequently registered at the Ajekar Police Station.

Although the Karkala Circle Inspector had arrested the trio earlier and they were subsequently released on bail, further investigations revealed their involvement in a systematic and organized criminal network. Consequently, the authorities decided to invoke the stringent KCOCA against them. Following this legal development, the accused, who were out on bail, were apprehended once again and have been remanded to judicial custody by the court.
