GANDERBAL, July 2: Marking the formal commencement of this year’s highly revered annual pilgrimage, the first official batch of devotees undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 arrived safely at the Baltal Base Camp on Thursday via the strategic Baltal route.

Filled with spiritual fervor and religious enthusiasm, the arriving pilgrims were accorded a warm, ceremonial reception by a combined team of senior administrative leaders and local community members. Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jatin Kishore, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Armed) Kashmir Maqsood-ul-Zaman, and Ganderbal Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sudhanshu Dhama personally led the welcoming committee. They were accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority, the Camp Director of the Baltal Base Camp, and other civil and police officers.

The hospitable reception mirrored the administration’s institutional commitment to ensuring that every devotee begins their arduous high-altitude pilgrimage with dignity, maximum comfort, and a profound sense of security. Extending his heartfelt greetings on the occasion, DC Jatin Kishore wished the pilgrims a safe, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling journey to the holy cave. He emphasized that the district machinery, in micro-coordination with all stakeholder departments, has operationalized comprehensive structural blueprints to optimize the well-being of the devotees. He urged the Yatris to stringently abide by the statutory health and security guidelines and cooperate with the active law enforcement cells deployed on-site.

Ahead of the formal trekking scheduled to begin on Friday, the district administration has set up extensive public utility networks at the Baltal Base Camp and along the treacherous mountain trails. These include round-the-clock medical stations, specialized emergency response teams, continuous sanitation and clean drinking water facilities, uninterrupted power grids, advanced communication lines, tactical traffic management modules, dense security cover, and dedicated help desks to assist commuters.
