Beltangady, April 22, 2026: A major road accident occurred at the sixth curve of the Charmadi Ghat late Sunday night, April 21, when a pickup vehicle carrying more than 25 passengers overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The passengers have been identified as labourers hailing from Andhra Pradesh and Ballari, who were reportedly travelling for work. The impact of the accident was severe, leaving more than 10 people with critical injuries, while others sustained minor wounds.

Rescue Operations by Locals: Immediately following the mishap, local residents and commuters rushed to the spot to initiate rescue operations. A team led by social activist Charmadi Hasanabba, along with the Rajyotsava Seva ambulance and the SKSSF ambulance from Kakkinje, coordinated the efforts. Local rickshaws and private cars were also utilized to transport the injured to the hospital.

All the injured were initially admitted to the Belthangady Government Hospital. However, 10 passengers who sustained severe head and leg injuries were later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced medical care as their condition was reported to be critical. Beltangady police officials visited the spot to conduct an inspection and have registered a case regarding the incident.
