Bhatkal, January 26, 2026: Tauseef (40), one of the two victims injured in the car-scooter collision at City Light Cross on NH-66, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday despite treatment at a Mangaluru hospital.

Tauseef, originally from Shirur and currently residing in Azad Nagar, Bhatkal, was riding the scooter when the accident occurred around 11:00 AM on Wednesday. A car coming from the opposite direction (Udupi–Sirsi route) attempted to overtake a lorry at high speed and collided head-on with the scooter, throwing both riders onto the road.

The other injured person, Syed Umar Rashad Sheikh (20) from Madina Colony, is undergoing treatment and remains stable. Both were initially rushed to Bhatkal Government Hospital for first aid before being shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for advanced care.

Bhatkal Town Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
