Bhatkal, January 25, 2026: Two persons sustained injuries in a road accident involving a car and a scooter at City Light Cross near Navayat Colony on National Highway-66 on Wednesday morning.

The injured have been identified as Syed Umar Rashad Sheikh (20) from Madina Colony and Tauseef (40), originally from Shirur and currently residing in Azad Nagar, Bhatkal.

The accident occurred around 11:00 AM when Tauseef was riding the scooter from City Light Cross towards Shamsuddin Circle. A car coming from the opposite direction (Udupi–Sirsi route) at high speed attempted to overtake a lorry, resulting in a direct collision with the scooter.

The force of the impact threw the scooter several metres away, causing both riders to fall on the road and sustain injuries. Locals rushed the injured to Bhatkal Government Hospital for first aid, after which they were shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.

Bhatkal Town Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
