Bhatkal, March 25, 2026: Prominent social activist, former municipal councillor, and a foundational figure in several educational and social institutions, Syed Hassan Barmawar (73), passed away on Wednesday afternoon. He had been battling health issues for the past few days and breathed his last after failing to respond to treatment.

Syed Hassan Barmawar was a well-known political figure who served as a member of the Bhatkal Town Municipal Council and held the position of District Minority Unit President for the Janata Dal party. Known for his close ties with senior leaders like R.V. Deshpande and Basavaraj Horatti, he was a respected voice in the Janata Parivar. He was a founding member of the Islamic Welfare Society, Welfare Hospital, and Shams School. His contribution to providing land for the New Shams School in Jamiabad remains a significant part of his legacy.

A dedicated philanthropist, Barmawar was instrumental in building homes for numerous underprivileged families and was a leading figure in the social welfare activities of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Leaders including Maulana Syed Zubair S.M., Tanzeem President Inayathullah Shabandri, and various local organizations have expressed deep condolences over the loss of a leader who dedicated his life to the service of the poor.
