Brahmavar, January 26, 2026: The much-hyped HMC United Trophy tennis-ball cricket tournament, boasting a record prize pool of ₹40 lakh, has collapsed in controversy after the third quarter-final match ended abruptly amid disputes, leaving players, organisers, and spectators stunned.
The tournament, organised at Gandhi Maidan in Brahmavar over January 23, 24, and 25, featured massive cash prizes: ₹25 lakh for the champions and ₹15 lakh for the runners-up. However, the third quarter-final between Johnson and Panchajanya teams descended into chaos in its final moments due to a major disagreement. The match was abandoned, and the entire tournament was declared cancelled, with no further games played.

This is not the first such controversy in Brahmavar. A similar large-prize tournament in 2011 also ended midway due to disputes. The current event, promoted as a historic initiative under the HMC (Hindu-Muslim-Christian) banner, has now left players staring at the sky for their promised rewards.
Semi-Final and Final to Be Decided at Brahmavar Police Station? The fallout from the abandoned quarter-final has shifted the semi-final and final outcomes to Brahmavar Police Station. With prize money of ₹40 lakh at stake and unresolved disputes, police are reportedly involved in mediating or recording statements to settle claims. As of Monday night, no final decision on prize distribution had been publicly announced.
The tournament’s dramatic collapse has sparked disappointment among participants and fans, who had high expectations from one of the biggest prize-money events in local tennis-ball cricket history.
