KARWAR, FEB 22, 2026: In a major push for healthcare in Uttara Kannada district, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that a Super Specialty Hospital will be sanctioned for Karwar in the upcoming state budget. He was speaking after inaugurating the newly built 450-bed multi-specialty hospital at the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), constructed at a cost of ₹200 crore.

The CM highlighted that since he started the medical college in 2016, the district has seen steady progress. “To ensure people don’t have to travel to Udupi, Mangaluru, or Hubballi for advanced treatment, we will establish a Super Specialty Hospital and a dedicated Cancer Unit in Karwar,” he stated. He added that the government aims to have medical colleges in every district, with upcoming ones planned for Puthur, Bijapur, and Kolar.
