Udupi, May 03, 2026: Most Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, has appointed Fr. Francis Xavier Lewis as the new Vicar General (V.G.) of the Diocese. The official installation and oath-taking ceremony took place at the Bishop’s House on May 2.

Profile and Career Highlights: Hailing from Pernal near Shirva, Fr. Lewis was ordained as a priest in 1987. Over his distinguished 39-year career, he has held several key positions:

Mission Work: Served as a missionary in Bidar for a decade (1987–1997).
Parish Service: Served as a parish priest in Bajal, Manipal, Mudarangadi, and is currently serving in Kalathur.
Communication & PR: Served as the Director of Canara Communication Centre, Sandesha Regional Communication Centre, and as the PRO of Mangalore Diocese.

New Assignments: In addition to his role as Vicar General, Fr. Lewis will take charge as the Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, and the Vicar Forane of the Kallianpur Deanery, effective from May 18, 2026. The ceremony was attended by Chancellor Fr. Stephen D’Souza and other senior clergy members.
