Gangolli, August 21, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Gangolli police arrested Naseer Khan, a 52-year-old resident of Sagar taluk, Shivamogga district, who had been absconding for nearly 23 years in connection with a dowry harassment case. The case, registered under Sections 498A (cruelty by husband or relatives), 504 (intentional insult), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 3, 4, and 6 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, was filed after Khan allegedly harassed his wife over dowry demands.
Despite multiple court summons, Khan evaded authorities for over two decades, remaining in hiding. Acting on credible intelligence, a police team comprising Head Constable Krishna, PC Prasanna, and PC Sandeep Kurani apprehended him on August 20, 2025, in Anandapur, Sagar taluk. He was subsequently produced before the Kundapur court for further legal proceedings.
This arrest underscores the persistence of law enforcement in addressing long-pending cases and highlights ongoing efforts to tackle dowry-related crimes, which remain a significant social issue in India.
