GANGOLLI: The historic ‘Mari Jatra’ of the Sri Mahankali Temple in Kharvikere, Gangolli, concluded with grand religious fervor on Wednesday. The annual festival saw a massive turnout of devotees from across the region.
Rituals and Traditions: The festivities commenced on Tuesday evening with special prayers at the Nagabana and offerings to Sri Maliyali Bobbarya. Following the ritual of ‘Guru Jattiga’ puja and the fetching of holy ‘Ganga’ water from the Arabian Sea, a Maha-Puja was performed for the Goddess. One of the highlights was the traditional ‘Madilu Thumbuva’ service, where hundreds of women offered prayers for the well-being of their families.
Massive Inflow of Devotees: On Wednesday morning, the temple witnessed rituals including Devara Sandarshana and Mangalarati. Devotees waited in long queues to offer ‘Harake’ (vows) and receive Prasadam. The event was meticulously managed by the temple priests, the administrative committee, the six Patels, twelve Moktesars, and members of the Women’s Service Committee.
The vibrant atmosphere and the traditional rituals showcased the deep-rooted cultural heritage of the coastal fishing community.
