Gangolli, June 29: Garbage disposal has emerged as a major concern for the residents of Gangolli village, who are now urging the local Gram Panchayat administration to establish an effective system for wet waste management.

While locals have appreciated the recent initiative of door-to-door dry waste collection across the streets of Gangolli, they highlighted a significant gap in the system. The garbage collection vehicles currently accept only dry waste, leaving residents with no viable solution for wet waste disposal. Although suggestions have been made to bury wet waste or use it as compost for trees, the unique residential structure of Gangolli presents a challenge. Most families reside in small plots measuring 3 to 5 cents, leaving virtually no open backyard space to dig compost pits without causing inconvenience to neighboring households.

According to available information, the Gangolli Gram Panchayat has planned to setup a well-equipped waste disposal plant at an estimated cost of 30 lakh INR. Residents have requested the administration to fast-track this project so that both wet and dry waste can be collected systematically from households at the earliest.

Presently, CCTV cameras have been installed at prominent public spots to monitor and penalize those dumping garbage illegally. However, this has resulted in people shifting to throwing waste in adjacent secluded and unmonitored areas, a practice reportedly observed even among educated individuals. Local resident and renowned cricket and kabaddi commentator Vishwanath Gangolli, speaking on behalf of the villagers, stated that the only permanent remedy to this issue is the immediate establishment of the proposed waste processing unit. He emphasized that this appeal is not politically motivated or directed against any individual, but reflects a collective grievance and humble request from the general public of Gangolli.
