Honnavar, April 19, 2026: The Honnavar police have achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting a thief involved in a supermarket heist within 48 hours of the crime being reported. The accused had allegedly stolen cash and an NVR (Network Video Recorder) from the ARM Supermarket located in the heart of the town.

The theft took place on April 16 at the supermarket situated on the Bus Stand Road. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Honnavar Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023. Acting on the directions of Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. (IPS), a special investigation team was formed to track down the culprit.

Under the leadership of PSI Mahantesh Valmiki and with technical assistance from the district fingerprint bureau, the team successfully tracked the suspect. On the afternoon of April 19, the police apprehended 27-year-old Muzaffar Sheikh, a resident of Subhashnagar, Dandeli, who was found wandering suspiciously in front of Sitara Hotel in Kumta.

Investigations revealed that Sheikh, who worked at a local hotel, was responsible for the theft. The police have successfully recovered the stolen cash and equipment from his possession.
