Bengaluru, February 24, 2026: Ten government schools across Karnataka were conferred with the ‘Best School’ award for environmental excellence under the “Mission Prakriti” initiative. Organized jointly by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) and WWF-India, the awards were presented by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa at Vikas Soudha on Monday.

Schools from the coastal districts showed outstanding performance, with DKZP Government High School, Aliyur (Dakshina Kannada), and Koteshwar Karnataka Public School, Haklady KSS Government High School, and Mallur Government Higher Primary School (Udupi) securing the honors. Other winners included schools from Ballari, Belagavi, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad, Davanagere, and Chamarajanagar.

During his address, Minister Madhu Bangarappa emphasized that education should go beyond scoring marks and focus on practical awareness. He cited Japan’s discipline in waste management as an example and announced that a ‘Moral Science’ textbook would be introduced for Classes 1 to 10 starting next year. Students participating in the event shared how the Mission Prakriti initiative enhanced their understanding of wildlife protection and environmental conservation. School Education Commissioner Vikas Kishor Suralkar and WWF-India CEO Karan Bhalla were present at the event.
