Kota, February 28, 2026: Five passengers had a providential escape on Friday evening following a horrific serial accident near the Kota petrol bunk on National Highway 66. The accident was triggered by a technical snag in a Tempo Traveller (TT) that caused it to jump the divider and collide with an oncoming car.

The Tempo Traveller was being driven from Kundapura to a showroom in Udupi for repairs when its engine crank reportedly snapped, leading to a loss of control. The speeding vehicle struck an electric pole on the divider before hurtling into the opposite lane and crashing into a car traveling from Udupi to Hemmadi. The TT subsequently overturned on the highway. Fortunately, the TT driver and the four occupants of the car—including two women—emerged from the wreckage with only minor injuries.

The incident led to a traffic jam, and Kota Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar R. arrived at the scene to manage the situation. However, another minor serial accident occurred when the drivers of a Brezza and an Alto, distracted by the accident site, failed to maintain distance. When the lead driver braked suddenly, the vehicles collided. While the cars sustained damage, no further injuries were reported. A case has been registered at the Kota Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
