Kundapur: Gold Chain Theft in Jewellery Shop Under Pretext of Purchase – Accused Arrested

Kundapur: Gold Chain Theft in Jewellery Shop Under Pretext of Purchase – Accused Arrested

Kundapur, February 3, 2026: Kundapur police have successfully arrested a man who allegedly stole a gold chain worth ₹1.25 lakh from a jewellery shop by pretending to purchase gold.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh (42) from Badag Kajekar village in Bantwal taluk. He is alleged to have entered S.P.G. Gold & Diamond shop near Shastri Circle in Kundapur town, expressed interest in buying gold, inspected a chain, and escaped with it by distracting the staff. The stolen chain weighed approximately 9 grams and was valued at ₹1.25 lakh.

Acting on the complaint, Kundapur Police Inspector Jayaram D. Gowda led a team comprising PSI Nanjanayak N. (Crime & Surveillance), Pushpa (Investigation), and staff members Santosh, Mahabal Shettigar, Prince, Ghanashyam, Santosh Devadiga, Gautam, Lohith, and Chandrashetty. Through swift investigation and coordinated efforts, the accused was traced and arrested from his native village in Bantwal taluk.

Police recovered the stolen gold chain and ₹33,000 in cash from his possession. Ramesh was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
