KUNDAPURA: The Udupi District Organizing Committee of the Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee submitted a memorandum to the Kundapura Tahsildar on Wednesday, demanding the immediate issuance of title deeds (Hakkupatra) for land reserved for the Koraga community in Aluru and Harkuru villages.
A Struggle Since 2016: For over ten years, the committee has been advocating for the allocation of at least one acre of land per Koraga family, as recommended by the Dr. Mohammed Peer Report. Despite numerous protests and petitions since 2016 regarding available government and D.C. Manna land, the final handover has been marred by administrative delays.
Bureaucratic Hurdles Despite Completed Formalities: The committee highlighted that land has already been identified for 13 Koraga families in Aluru and Harkuru. All technical formalities—including land surveys, mahazar (spot inspections), and statement recordings—stand completed. However, the official allotment orders and cultivation certificates (Saguvali Chiti) are yet to be issued, leaving these families in a state of uncertainty regarding their livelihood and housing.
Official Response: Receiving the memorandum, Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar assured the delegation that he would conduct a site inspection shortly and submit a comprehensive report to higher authorities to expedite the process.
The delegation included District Convenor Sridhar Nada, State Committee member Krishna Inna, and several community leaders and activists from the region.
