Malpe, January 28, 2026: In the wake of the tragic tourist boat accident at Kodibengre river-sea confluence, the Coastal Police (Malpe Station) convened a meeting with owners of water sports and tourist boats operating under its jurisdiction on Wednesday.

The meeting, presided over by the Coastal Police DYSP, was attended by owners of 40 boats. Police informed the participants about the directives issued by the Udupi District Administration following the incident. Boat owners were strictly instructed to ensure all necessary documentation, permits, and safety compliances are in place before operating boats, kayaking, or other water sports activities in the coming days.

The discussion focused on reinforcing safety protocols, mandatory life jacket usage, adherence to capacity limits, weather monitoring, and obtaining valid permissions from the Fisheries and Tourism Departments. Police emphasised that strict enforcement will be carried out to prevent recurrence of such tragedies and ensure the safety of tourists and locals alike.

The Kodibengre incident on January 26 claimed Three lives and left one critically injured when a boat capsized at the river mouth. The meeting aimed at sensitising operators and ensuring full compliance with regulations governing coastal tourism activities.
