Mundgod, February 1, 2026: Mundgod police have cracked a daring daytime house burglary in the Ambedkar Oni area of Mundgod town, arresting an inter-district thief from Dharwad and recovering stolen gold jewellery valued at approximately ₹2.44 lakh.

The accused is Manjunath Basavanthappa Nayak (34) from Tabakad Honhalli village in Kalghatgi taluk, Dharwad district.

According to the complaint filed by Basavaraj Mallappa Chalawadi, a resident of Ambedkar Oni, unknown thieves broke open the front door of his house between morning and evening on January 27, 2026, and stole gold ornaments from the cupboard. The stolen items included a gold chain, earrings, rings, and other jewellery worth around ₹2.44 lakh. A case was registered at Mundgod Police Station.

A special investigation team, acting on technical leads and reliable information, arrested the accused in the early hours of January 31, 2026. During interrogation, Manjunath confessed to the burglary. Police recovered 14 grams of gold jewellery (valued at ₹2.44 lakh) from his possession.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N., Additional SPs Krishnamurthy and Jagadish M., and Shirsi DYSP Geetha Patil. The team was led by CPI Ranganath Neelammanavar, with active participation from ASI Manjunath Chinchali, Kotesh Nagaravalli, Annappa Budiger, Tirupati Chaudannavar, Basavaraj Lambani, and Kallappa Honnihalli.

SP Deepan M.N. commended the investigating team for their swift and efficient work in solving the case and recovering the stolen property.
