KUNDAPURA: Allegations have arisen that traders at the weekly Thursday market in Nayakawadi of Kundapura taluk are charging customers double the price.

According to allegations made by locals, there has been a sudden and sharp increase in the prices of daily essential items including vegetables, fruits, and chilies, putting ordinary consumers in difficulty. Consumers expressed dissatisfaction that some items are being sold at a price higher than the fixed rate. Hundreds of people from surrounding villages come to the Thursday market for purchases. However, the public opines that the price hike has made it difficult for the middle and poor classes to purchase essential items. When media persons visited the Thursday market, the public, including women, raised allegations about the doubling of prices in the Nayakawadi market.

When asked about the allegation, former President of Gujjadi Grama Panchayat, Thammaiah Devadiga, told the media, “I will call and speak to the traders during next week’s Nayakawadi Thursday market and ask them to allow business to be conducted in a way that is convenient for the villagers and the general public.“
