MANGALURU: The management committee of the iconic Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah in Mangaluru on Saturday officially announced the appointment of prominent Islamic scholar Panakkad Sayyid Nasir Ali Shihab Thangal as the new Qazi of Dakshina Kannada district. The key religious position fell vacant following the recent demise of the former Qazi, Alhaj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar.

The high-profile appointment was finalized after detailed consultations with leaders of various area mohallams and central masjid trustees. Announcing the consensus decision at a joint administrative meet, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, President of the Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid, stated that Sayyid Nasir Ali Shihab Thangal had formally consented to take over the spiritual leadership of the district.

A Legacy of Islamic Scholarship: Hailing from the revered Panakkad family, Sayyid Nasir Ali Shihab Thangal belongs to the Hadhrami Yemeni Sayyid lineage, tracing directly back to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
