Gangolli, April 07, 2026: Renowned folk singer and the Udupi District President of Kannada Janapada Parishat, Ganesh Gangolli (64), passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Udupi. He was admitted to the hospital following a sudden health complication.

After returning home from an event, Ganesh collapsed abruptly. He was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi, where doctors confirmed that he breathed his last due to a brain hemorrhage.

Career and Achievements: A resident of Bavikatte near Gangolli, Ganesh had dedicated over 32 years to the field of folk and Sugama Sangeetha. As an All India Radio (AIR) artist, he gained immense popularity and was featured in Doordarshan Chandana’s famous ‘Gana Garadi’ program.

His contribution to art earned him several prestigious honors, including the Karnataka Janapada Academy Award, an Honorary Doctorate, and the Khidma Sevaratna State Award. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. His demise has left a huge void in the folk music community of coastal Karnataka.
