Gangolli/Trasi, April 29, 2026: A tragic road accident near Trasi Beach has claimed the lives of three passengers from Shankarghatta Rambhapuria. The students were on an educational tour and were traveling from Murudeshwar to Udupi when their bus collided with the rear of a truck on National Highway 66.

Passenger Details: There were a total of 53 people on board the bus, including 48 students (25 boys and 23 girls), two drivers, two conductors, and one cook.

Sequence of Events: According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver lost control while the group was enjoying the scenic beauty of Maravanthe beach. The speeding bus first collided head-on with a Maharashtra-registered gas tanker. Due to the momentum, the bus then crashed into the rear of a Tamil Nadu-registered goods truck parked by the roadside. The front portion of the bus was completely mangled, and the gas tanker also sustained significant damage.

Casualties: Three people, including a cook and two other passengers from the university group, lost their lives. Two died on the spot, while the third person succumbed to injuries while being shifted to Manipal for advanced medical care. Several students sustained serious injuries, including fractures, and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kundapura.

Rescue Efforts: Emergency responders, including Ibrahim Gangolli from the 24×7 Helpline, the SSC Ambulance team, Hindu Jagarana Vedike ambulance driver Prashant Kharvi, ambulance driver Krishna Kitta Nayakwadi, Riazuddin Nayakwadi, Sameer Aziz Babasha, Arshad Gangolli and local residents, coordinated the rescue operation to shift the injured to hospitals.

Official Visit: Udupi District Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar, DySP Kulkarni, Gangolli SI Pavan Nayak, and their team visited the spot to oversee rescue operations and restore traffic flow. A case has been registered at the Gangolli Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
