KUNDAPURA: Journalists must uphold vocational ethics and work in the best interest of society without succumbing to any external political influence or institutional pressure, asserted Ambedkar Sena State President P. Murthy. He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest at the Press Day celebrations and awards distribution ceremony organized jointly by the Udupi district units of the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Dhwani (KAWJD) and the Ambedkar Sena at the Prestige Auditorium in Trasi, Kundapura taluk.

Murthy emphasized that only truthful and responsible reporting can guide a society toward progression, warning that manufactured narratives far from reality can create severe adverse impacts. Inaugurating the convention, KAWJD State President Bangle Mallikarjuna stated that media professionals carry the foundational responsibility of exposing injustice, inequality, and administrative illegalities. Highlighting that journalists frequently risk their personal safety while gathering news on the ground, Mallikarjuna urged the government to implement welfare and security measures to safeguard media personnel and their dependents. He added that the organization will always defend journalists operating under the constitutional framework of freedom of expression.

Labor Card Distribution and Felicitations: Evincing a strong commitment to social causes, the organizers ran a major community welfare drive during the convention, generating and distributing free labor identification cards to over 300 unorganized daily-wage laborers. Furthermore, a grand felicitation ceremony was conducted to honor retired military veterans for their national service, along with meritorious students, local social workers, and senior journalists. Official institutional identity badges were also issued to active members of both organizing councils.

Senior advocate from Kundapura, Ravikiran Murdeshwar, presided over the program. The dais was graced by KAWJD Coastal Division President Kumar Nayak, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Udupi District President Prabhakar Poojari, Prabhakar Poojari of Classic Builders Udupi, Ambedkar Sena Ramanagara District President Sagar, entrepreneur Shiva Poojari, journalist Shwetha Acharya, Police Varthe editor Subhash Shetty, and Pravin Shetty of Prestige Hall. Kundapura Labor Inspectors and Gangolli Police Station Sub-Inspector (PSI) Pavan Nayak were also among the dignitaries in attendance. KAWJD Udupi District President Damodar Mogaveera welcomed the dignitaries, while Ambedkar Sena District President Satish Kunchogodu delivered the introductory speech. The event saw the active participation of structural office-bearers and over 500 citizens.
