UDUPI: Another case of fraud and criminal intimidation has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station against Zeenath of Padubidri Kanchinadka, who is already an accused in a businessman blackmail case.

According to the police, Mohini Shettigar, a resident of Herga Trishanku Nagar, filed a complaint stating that Zeenath approached her in August and October 2020 claiming an urgent requirement of ₹50 lakh. Believing her words, Mohini handed over around 148 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹22,00,000. Zeenath, accompanied by another woman named Geetha Rao, subsequently pledged the gold at Sudhindra Finance and obtained a loan of ₹4,36,000.

Zeenath paid the loan installments for about a year and a half but stopped thereafter, failing to return the gold ornaments. When Mohini visited Zeenath’s residence to demand her gold back, the family members allegedly abused her in foul language and threatened to murder her if she approached the police. Following the complaint that Zeenath lured her with the promise of ₹50 lakh and cheated her of 148 grams of gold, the Udupi Town Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
