Udupi, April 18, 2026: The Udupi District Congress Committee organized a massive protest on Friday against the Central Government’s proposed Delimitation Bill. The protesters marched from the District Congress Bhavan to Brahmagiri Circle, where they staged a road blockade for a significant amount of time, voicing their strong opposition to the Centre’s move.

Addressing the protestors, former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake alleged that the Central Government is using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a shield to implement a politically motivated delimitation process. He pointed out that although the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in 2023, the government has yet to implement it effectively. Instead, it is using the bill as a pretext to push for an unscientific delimitation process, which Congress and other opposition parties are firmly against.

Sorake further stated that the Congress party has a long history of empowering women, having given the country its first female Prime Minister.
