Udupi, March 05, 2026: In view of the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving Iran and its neighbouring nations, the Bishops’ Conference has called upon the Christian community across the country to fervently pray for peace. In response, the Apostolic Administrator of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Udupi, Gerald Isaac Lobo, has appealed to the faithful to observe Sunday, March 8, 2026, as a “Day of Prayer for Peace.”

In a press release, Fr Denis D’Sa, Public Relations Officer of the Diocese of Udupi, stated that the Church views with deep concern the immense human suffering caused by war and instability realities that wound the entire human family. Special concern is expressed for Indian brothers and sisters living and working in various Middle Eastern countries. Many of them support their families from abroad and contribute significantly to both the Church and the nation. During this uncertain time, the faithful are urged to entrust them to God’s loving protection, praying earnestly for their safety, security, and well-being.

On March 8, special prayers for peace in the Middle East are to be offered during the celebration of the Holy Mass in all parishes and institutions. Suitable intentions may also be included in the Prayer of the Faithful, invoking the cessation of violence, the protection of innocent lives, and wisdom and restraint among world leaders.

Furthermore, the faithful are encouraged to recite the Holy Rosary each day from March 8 to 14, dedicating it exclusively for the intention of peace. Friday, March 13, has been designated as a Day of Fasting and Prayer, inviting all to offer personal sacrifices for world peace and for the safety of those affected by violence and conflict. Through united prayer, penance, and solidarity, the faithful are called to humbly implore Almighty God that hatred may give way to reconciliation, hostilities may cease, and the gift of peace may flourish in every land, the press release stated.
