Udupi, June 30: A formal complaint has been registered at the Shirva police station after unidentified occupants of a car allegedly drove away without paying a bill of ₹4,711 for diesel at an Indian Oil fuel station in Kurkal village of Udupi district.

According to the complaint lodged by Ashish Karkada, the manager of the Kurkal filling station, the incident took place at around 9:20 PM on June 27. A white Ford EcoSport car arrived at the retail outlet and requested a full tank of diesel. After the staff completed refueling the vehicle, the occupants requested the generation of the final bill. However, while the fuel pump attendant was preparing the transaction receipt, the driver suddenly accelerated and sped away from the premises without clearing the dues. The unpaid fuel bill amounted to exactly ₹4,711.09.

The fuel station attendants noted that three young individuals were inside the vehicle. The suspects were reportedly speaking fluent Tulu and claimed to be residents of Kumta, a claim the complainant suspected to be fabricated. The staff also observed a beer bottle and snack packets inside the cabin, leading them to suspect that the individuals were under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle was also fitted with illegal black-tinted windows. Although CCTV footage of the entire incident is safely preserved and shared with the authorities, the exact vehicle registration number could not be deciphered due to the camera’s angle, distance, and the glare from the car’s bright headlights. Internal verification by management cleared the station staff of any involvement. The Shirva police have registered a case and initiated a technical probe to track down the vehicle.
