Udupi, April 08, 2026: The Udupi district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda faction) held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, April 7, demanding the immediate dismissal of Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot. The organization accused the Governor of following an anti-Karnataka stance and acting as a tool for “Hindi imperialism.”

The unrest was sparked by the Governor’s letter to the Chief Secretary, requesting a review of the State Government’s decision to implement a grading system for the third language in SSLC examinations. Protesters claimed this move was a strategic attempt to facilitate the permanent imposition of Hindi in Karnataka.

A.R. Prabhakar Poojary, the district president, slammed the Governor for acting on a plea from an anonymous group called the ‘Bengaluru Local Language Protection Association.’ He stated, “The Governor has exceeded his constitutional boundaries by opposing the aspirations of Kannadigas. He appears to be working for the ‘Hindi Mafia’ and has lost the moral right to continue in his position.”
