Udupi, April 28, 2026: Following a tragic incident involving the sexual assault of a foreign national at a homestay in Kodagu, the Udupi district police launched a special crackdown on illegal accommodation facilities. The drive resulted in the detection of 32 unauthorized homestays operating across the district.

The operation was conducted under the directions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order). The breakdown of illegal homestays detected is as follows:
