UDUPI, July 2: In a commendable act of alertness and timely intervention, Konkan Railway staff and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully rescued five minor boys who had run away from their homes. The incident came to light on Wednesday at the Udupi railway station aboard the Mumbai-Mangaluru Matsyagandha Express.

The rescue unfolded when Chief Ticket Examiner (TTE) Savitha Shetty was checking tickets in the general compartment of Train No. 12619 (Matsyagandha Express) between Barkur and Udupi stations. She noticed five young boys traveling without valid tickets. Sensing something amiss due to their nervous behavior and suspicious movements, she immediately alerted the RPF control room at the Udupi station.

As soon as the train pulled into the Udupi platform, RPF Constable Muralidharan, who was briefed and kept ready, boarded the coach. He safely deboarded the five minors and brought them to the RPF outpost. The railway police officers gently counseled the boys, earning their confidence, and provided them with refreshments. During the inquiry, the children confessed that they had fled their homes without informing anyone due to various domestic and family-related issues.

Since the passengers were minors, the RPF team shifted them to the custody of the District Child Protection Unit for further statutory protocols
