Udupi, March 14, 2026: Auto drivers in Udupi have voiced strong displeasure over a sudden increase in the price of auto LPG at one of the city’s fuel stations. Drivers alleged that the price of auto gas at the Aegis Auto Gas Station in Udyavar has been raised by Rs 18 per litre compared to the rates charged at other gas stations in the city.

The price hike came into effect abruptly on Friday afternoon, leaving many autorickshaw operators shocked and frustrated. While most auto LPG pumps in Udupi city continue to charge the regular rate, the Aegis outlet has significantly increased the price, placing an additional financial burden on drivers.

When questioned, pump owners reportedly stated that they had received a circular regarding revised rates for new stock, while other stations were still selling from older stock. On Saturday, long queues were seen outside the station as drivers had limited alternatives. M. Hanif Manipura, general secretary of the Auto Drivers and Owners Association, stated, “The price was around Rs 62 per litre, but it has suddenly jumped to Rs 90 at the Udyavar station. This is unfair exploitation of auto drivers. We urge the deputy commissioner to intervene and ensure uniform pricing across the district. If the issue is not resolved, we will be forced to stage a strong protest.”
