LUCKNOW: A 36-year-old US national, identified as Jordan Brown, has been arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh while attempting to cross over to Nepal without valid travel or identity documents. Brown, who claims to be a former US Navy and Special Forces veteran, has drawn extreme suspicion from intelligence agencies after giving highly contradictory statements regarding his arrival and residence in India.

His arrest comes months after another high-profile arrest of American national Matthew VanDyke—who was detained along with Ukrainian nationals for suspected insurgent training and drone warfare linked to Myanmar and is currently on a hunger strike in Tihar Jail demanding an “American-style diet.”

Brown was intercepted near Border Pillar No. 516 in the Sonauli sector, away from the designated immigration route. When security personnel spotted him approaching the border and ordered him to stop, Brown attempted to flee but was quickly intercepted. Authorities recovered ₹31,460 in cash, two mobile phones, religious books, an AI translation device, a diary, a wristwatch, and a Chinese passport from his possession. He has been booked under sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act.

Brown, who claims to be from California and studied at the University of California, stated he had served in the US Navy and Foreign Services for six years until 2024. He claims to have traveled to 70 countries. However, his conflicting statements have baffled investigators:

The Sea Route Claim: He initially alleged that he lost his passport in Thailand, sailed to Sri Lanka, and entered India illegally by sea on November 2, 2025, before living in Goa.
The Domestic Travel Claim: Later, he asserted he arrived in Goa directly from the US two months ago, traveled to Bengaluru, took a bus to Lucknow on July 8, and then hired a taxi to the border. He claims his passport is currently with an acquaintance in Bengaluru.
Other Claims: He claimed he was traveling to Nepal to meet a person named “Naz” whom he met in Goa, and that he married an Indian yoga instructor from Uttarakhand in Italy back in 2024.

While no anti-national links have been established so far, multiple central intelligence agencies are verifying his military background and investigating the origin of the recovered Chinese passport.
