UDUPI: Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader visited the Udupi District Hospital and the Government Koosamma Shadila Shetty Memorial Maternity and Children’s Hospital on Saturday to conduct a comprehensive inspection of healthcare services. During his visit, the Minister inspected the new building, treatment systems, and the operation theater (OT), and subsequently held a review meeting with officials.

The Minister interacted with inpatients at the district hospital to enquire about their health and gather feedback on the services rendered by doctors and nursing staff. Expressing happiness over the positive response from patients, he reviewed the available medical equipment and pending infrastructure requirements with District Surgeon Dr. H. Ashok and Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa.

At the maternity hospital, the Minister interacted with mothers and children. He chaired a health department review meeting attended by DC Swaroopa, District Surgeon Dr. H. Ashok, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Basavaraj Hubballi, and other medical officers.

During the meeting, the Minister lauded the hospital staff upon learning that over 150 deliveries take place at the maternity facility every month. Noting that the district hospital receives 700 to 800 outpatients daily, and over 900 on Mondays, he appreciated the public’s growing trust in government healthcare facilities.

To boost public confidence further, the Minister directed officials to hold press conferences twice a month at the district hospital and once a month at taluk hospitals to highlight successful treatments and surgeries.

Addressing infrastructure delays, including pending repairs of the maternity hospital and the pit dug for the new building opposite the facility, the Minister directed senior officials to convene a special high-level meeting in Bengaluru on July 16 with the Commissioner and senior health department officials to resolve all pending development issues.
