Yellapur, April 14, 2026: A tragic road accident near Gullapur on the Baleguli-Yellapur highway on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a car driver and left three others critically injured. The deceased has been identified as Shivananda Ambiga, a resident of Gullapur.

Shivananda was returning home in a Maruti Eco car with his wife, son, and a relative after attending a funeral. A dumper truck, loaded with M-Sand and traveling at high speed from Gokak, collided head-on with their car. The impact was so severe that the car was completely crushed, and the massive truck overturned on the highway. While Shivananda died on the spot, the other three passengers sustained life-threatening injuries.

Immediately after the crash, the truck driver fled the scene. Ganapati Mulemane, a resident of Ankola who was traveling towards Hubballi, noticed the victims and immediately stopped to help. Thanks to his quick response, the injured were rushed to a hospital in Ankola via ambulance for urgent treatment.

Yellapur police visited the spot to clear the traffic congestion caused by the accident. A case has been registered, and a manhunt is underway for the absconding truck driver.
