Dandeli, February 3, 2026: In a major boost for the people of Dandeli and surrounding areas in Uttara Kannada district, the long-suspended railway service is set to resume on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna will officially inaugurate the train operations at 4:00 PM.
The service, which had been halted since the COVID-19 pandemic, is being restored following persistent efforts by MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri. Locals had been demanding the revival for several years, citing the importance of rail connectivity for daily commuters, tourism, and local trade.
MP Kageri’s sustained follow-up with the Central Government has finally yielded results. The resumption is expected to bring new life to the region’s transport sector and significantly benefit Dandeli as a major tourist destination. Easier access will encourage more visitors, boost local businesses, and improve overall connectivity.
The restarting of train services has been welcomed with enthusiasm by residents, traders, tourism stakeholders, and public representatives. The event is anticipated to mark a new chapter for the historic and scenic Dandeli area.
