Corruption in Nutrition Funds: Anganwadi Supervisor and Worker Caught Red-Handed by Lokayukta for Bribery

KALABURAGI: In a sting operation conducted on Wednesday, the Lokayukta police trapped an Anganwadi Supervisor and a worker for demanding and accepting a bribe to release funds meant for providing eggs to children and women.

The Accused: The arrested individuals have been identified as Heena, an Anganwadi worker from Station Bazar, and Pinkubai Gaikwad, an Anganwadi Supervisor. The trap was laid based on a complaint filed by Saubhagya Balabhim Rathod, a worker at the Uday Nagar Anganwadi center.

The Bribery Demand: According to the complaint, a sum of ₹14,490 had been credited to Saubhagya’s center for three months’ worth of egg supplies. To clear the administrative hurdles, the accused allegedly demanded a “commission” of ₹6,030, which included a full month’s allotment of ₹4,830 and additional service cuts for November and December.

The Trap: Acting on the tip-off, a Lokayukta team led by Police Inspector Rajashekhar Badadesar, under the guidance of SP Siddaraju, intercepted the duo while they were accepting the bribe money. A case has been registered at the Lokayukta police station, and further investigations are underway to check if such “commissions” were being collected from other centers as well.
