Bengaluru, March 06, 2026: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today presented his record 17th State Budget, outlining a comprehensive ₹4,48,004 crore spending plan for the financial year 2026–27. Despite witnessing a revenue deficit for the third consecutive year, the budget focuses heavily on infrastructure and social welfare.

Fiscal Position: Total revenue receipts are estimated at ₹3,15,050 crore, including the state’s own tax revenue of ₹2,20,000 crore and ₹79,050 crore in transfers from the Centre. Including borrowings of ₹1,32,000 crore, total receipts stand at ₹4,47,240 crore. The revenue deficit is projected at ₹22,957 crore, and the fiscal deficit at ₹97,449 crore (2.95% of GSDP).

Key Policy Decisions:

Mekedatu Dam: A revised DPR will be submitted to the Centre for drinking water supply to Bengaluru.
Rohith Vemula Act: To be enacted across all universities to prevent caste-based discrimination and atrocities.
Mangaluru IT Park: KEONICS will establish a new IT Park in Mangaluru to boost the coastal tech ecosystem.
Social Media Ban: Usage of social media platforms will be banned for children under the age of 16.

Infrastructure and Connectivity:

Bengaluru’s 2nd Airport: A feasibility report will be prepared for a second airport to decongest Kempegowda International Airport.
Corridors and Tunnels: A 17-km North-South corridor costing ₹17,780 crore and a tunnel road from Hebbal to Mehkri Circle at ₹2,250 crore were announced.
Sports: An 80,000-capacity cricket stadium and international sports complex in Anekal under ‘KHB Surya Kreeda Grama’.

Education and Healthcare:

KPS Schools: 800 schools will be upgraded to Karnataka Public Schools at a cost of ₹3,900 crore.
Hospitals: A ₹198 crore multi-speciality hospital in Karwar and trauma care in Raichur.
Palliative Care: Introduction of Kerala-model home-based care for terminally ill patients in collaboration with Pallium India.

Other Major Updates:

Annabhagya Revision: Monthly ‘Indira Food Kits’ containing dal, sugar, salt, and oil will replace the extra 5kg rice currently provided.
Excise Reform: Alcohol-content based taxation from April 2026, with price slabs reduced from 16 to 8.
Recruitment: Process initiated to fill 56,432 posts with a 5-year age relaxation for candidates.
