On August 24, 2025, a 70-year-old pedestrian, Peeru Saheb, was fatally struck by a speeding car while attempting to cross NH66 near Koppalangadi, Kaup. The victim succumbed to injuries en route to a hospital. Kaup police are investigating, with assistance from Udupi SDPI ambulance services.
