Udupi, April 21, 2026: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary criticized the opposition parties for their stance against the Nari Shakti Bill 2026, stating that it undermines the self-respect of women. Addressing a press conference at the district BJP office, he expressed disappointment that a bill intended to provide fair representation to women was not passed unanimously.

Discussing the necessity of constituency delimitation, the MP noted that some constituencies currently have a population ranging from 28 to 33 lakhs, making it difficult for representatives to maintain effective public contact. “Reducing the size of these constituencies is essential for better governance, and implementing the 33% reservation for women alongside this process is a vital necessity,” he explained.

He further alleged that while Karnataka requires additional legislative seats due to population growth, the opposition continues to block such progressive moves. Regarding the ongoing political situation in West Bengal, he claimed that an atmosphere of fear persists with attacks on BJP supporters, yet expressed confidence that the NDA would come to power there. Senior women leaders including Shyamala Kundar, Geethanjali Suvarna, Veena Shetty, and Sandhya Ramesh were present during the briefing.
