Bengaluru, April 15, 2026: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Disciplinary Committee has expelled Afreen Khan, the Vice President of Bengaluru North District Youth Congress, for violating party discipline. Afreen Khan, known to be a supporter of Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, faced this action after sharing derogatory content against MLA Rizwan Arshad.

The controversy arose when Afreen Khan posted a video on social media referring to Rizwan Arshad as ‘Mir Sadiq’, a term often used to denote a traitor. This move caused significant unrest within the party ranks. Amidst intensifying political developments in the Davanagere South constituency, the Congress leadership has been taking a zero-tolerance approach toward disciplinary breaches, even among mid-level leaders.

As a result of this serious breach, Afreen Khan has been removed from her post in the Youth Congress and expelled from the party. Party sources indicate that the KPCC is committed to maintaining strict internal control, and similar strict measures are expected in the future for any further violations.

Afrin Khan’s Reaction: Following the expulsion order, Afrin Khan issued a sharp rebuttal, claiming that she had already tendered her resignation before the party took action. “There is no question of expelling me when I have already resigned,” she stated. Furthermore, she launched a scathing attack on the party leadership, alleging that the Congress is systematically removing several Muslim leaders. “By looking at these developments, it seems the Congress does not want to stay in power in 2028,” she remarked, suggesting that the party is alienating its support base.

While the KPCC maintains that the action was purely based on a breach of discipline, Afrin Khan’s statements have added a communal and political twist to the incident, raising questions about internal friction within the party’s minority wing.
