Kundapur, April 24, 2026: The Shankaranarayana Police have successfully solved the theft case involving the donation box (hundi) of the Umamaheshwara Temple in Ajri village, Kundapur taluk. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.

The incident occurred on April 20, 2026, when a helmet-clad individual entered the temple premises early in the morning and fled with the hundi. The act was captured on CCTV, causing concern among the local devotees and residents. Acting on a tip-off and technical surveillance, a special police team tracked down the suspects to Ilkal town in Bagalkot district. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Sandeep Achari (28): A resident of Mathadamane, Elaberu, Kamalashile.
Muttappa Sharanappa Walikar (40): A resident of Banahatti, Kushtagi.

The police have recovered the stolen hundi along with a motorcycle used for the crime and three mobile phones. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around 1.50 lakh Rupees.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Kundapur DySP H.D. Kulkarni and Circle Inspector Santhosh A. Kaikini, led by PSI I.R. Gaddekar and PSI Akshaya Kumari.

The accused were produced before the court, which subsequently remanded them to judicial custody.
