Pune: What was initially reported as a tragic trekking accident at the iconic Lohagad Fort near Lonavala has been revealed as a planned murder. Pune Rural Police have arrested 20-year-old Siya Goel (Goyal), the fiancée of the deceased 26-year-old businessman Ketan Vishal Agarwal, and her lover Chetan Chaudhary (22), for allegedly conspiring and executing his murder.

The Background of the Case: Ketan Agarwal died after falling nearly 350 feet into a valley at Lohagad Fort on June 16, 2026. Initially, an accidental death case (AD No. 36/2026) was registered under Section 194 of the BNSS by the Lonavala Rural Police after Siya informed the family that Ketan had lost his balance and slipped from the cliff’s edge while taking photographs. However, following suspicions raised by Ketan’s family and friends, the police analyzed mobile phone records, CCTV footage, and technical evidence, which changed the direction of the probe.

The Murder Plot and Motive: According to the police, Siya was in a relationship with Chetan Chaudhary, who worked in Pune’s Market Yard area, and was opposed to marrying Ketan, a match chosen by her family. Since their grand wedding was scheduled for the upcoming month in Jaipur, Siya considered Ketan an obstacle to her relationship and plotted his murder with Chetan.

Earlier, the couple was supposed to travel to Bali, but Siya tore up and discarded her passport in a hotel washroom during the journey, forcing the cancellation of the trip. The police revealed that a prior attempt to kill Ketan was made on June 14 at Lohagad Fort by trying to push him under the pretext of a snake attack, which failed. Later, under the guise of a pre-wedding photoshoot and her birthday celebration, Siya organized another trip to the fort. While Ketan believed they were trekking alone, Chetan followed them to the top. At a secluded spot near the edge of the fort, Siya and Chetan allegedly pushed Ketan into the valley, causing fatal injuries. Both accused have confessed to the crime during interrogation, and the case has been converted into a murder investigation.
