Manipal, April 20, 2026: A fire broke out at the old KMF (Karnataka Milk Federation) milk processing unit located at Ishwar Nagar in Manipal on Monday morning. The timely intervention of the fire brigade prevented the blaze from spreading further.

The incident occurred around 11:00 AM while welding work was being carried out at the unit. A spark from the welding torch reportedly fell onto oil stored nearby, igniting a fire that quickly spread to the boiler section.

Upon receiving the information, the Udupi fire services rushed to the spot and conducted an hour-long operation to extinguish the flames. While the situation was brought under control and no casualties were reported, the fire has caused significant damage to the machinery and property within the unit. The total financial loss is yet to be fully assessed.
