CHIKKAMAGALURU: Serious internal discord has erupted within the Mudigere Congress unit as senior leaders and grassroots workers have openly rebelled against sitting MLA Nayana Motamma (Nayana Jhawar). A high-level delegation, including former minister B.B. Ningaiah and former MLA M.P. Kumaraswamy, alongside over 45 senior leaders, met the newly appointed KPCC President B.K. Hariprasad in Bengaluru to submit a detailed 16-point written complaint against her functioning.

The leaders highlighted that Nayana Motamma won the 2023 Assembly elections by a razor-thin margin of just 722 votes due to the tireless efforts of party workers. However, in the three years since taking office, she has reportedly failed to execute noteworthy developmental works and has consistently acted against the core ideology of the Congress party.

Key Allegations Highlighted in the Complaint:

Sidelining Party Infrastructure: The MLA has allegedly never visited the official block Congress office at ‘Indira Gandhi Memorial Bhavan’ since her election. She reportedly stays away from official party meetings, national festival celebrations, and condolence meets, preferring to operate out of a private home office located far from the taluk center, causing immense inconvenience to the public.
Links with RSS and Bajrang Dal: Dedicated, long-time Congress loyalists are being marginalized while individuals with RSS and Bajrang Dal backgrounds, who joined just before the 2023 elections, have formed a core clique around the MLA.
Sharing Stage with Pramod Muthalik: The complaint states that during the 2025 Hindu Mahaganapati event in Mudigere, the MLA shared the stage and extended a grand welcome to right-wing leader Pramod Muthalik. When leaders from the Muslim community expressed their grievances regarding this, the MLA allegedly verbally abused them.
Arbitrary Administration & Lobbying: Ignoring KPCC directives to form block-level coordination committees, the MLA is accused of single-handedly managing transfers, contract allocations, and fund distribution through an informal network of cronies. She has also been accused of bypassing party consensus during the recent Youth Congress and TAPCMS elections to favor her close associates through unfair means.

The block committee warned that the MLA is only present in the constituency two days a week, forcing workers to travel to Bengaluru to meet her. The delegation requested the KPCC to immediately dispatch a special committee to review the situation, warning that failure to address these grievances would severely damage the party’s prospects in the upcoming 2028 Assembly and 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
