Thrissur, April 21, 2026: At least thirteen people were killed and over 25 injured in a devastating explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikkodu, Thrissur district, on Tuesday afternoon. The facility was reportedly engaged in preparing firecrackers for the world-renowned Thrissur Pooram festival in Keralam.

Witnesses reported hearing two massive blasts in quick succession around 3:30 pm, which caused widespread panic in the locality. Most of the casualties were workers at the unit, with five individuals currently reported to be in critical condition. Emergency services, including firefighters and medical teams, reached the site promptly to shift the injured to nearby hospitals.

The exact cause of the blast is yet to be established. Forensic experts are scheduled to inspect the debris to determine if the tragedy was a result of safety violations or an accidental spark.
