UDUPI: Udupi District Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. has issued a stern warning to Booth Level Officers (BLOs), stating that strict disciplinary action will be taken if they fail to properly distribute and collect enumeration forms for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral roll.

She was speaking at the interaction program on SSR organized by the Udupi District Working Journalists Association in collaboration with the Udupi Press Club Committee at the Press Club on Friday.

Accountability and Warnings for BLOs: DC Swaroopa noted that BLOs have already undergone training five to six times regarding the process. “We have repeatedly instructed them to visit every house to distribute and collect the forms. Notices have already been served to those BLOs who were found working sluggishly. We will not tolerate any negligence hereafter, and if the public brings any lapses to our notice, immediate action will be taken,” she asserted.

She also specified that in apartment complexes, BLOs must visit individual flats rather than leaving the forms at a common reception desk. Public complaints regarding negligent BLOs can be dynamically routed to Sector Officers or the respective Tahsildars.

Draft Roll on August 5, Final on October 7: The draft electoral roll will be officially published on August 5, followed by widespread publicity. Citizens whose names are already featured in the draft do not need to submit any fresh documents. However, if a name is omitted, they must submit one of the 11 designated alternative documents. The DC clarified that Aadhaar cards will not be accepted as valid proof of residence since they only serve as proof of identity.

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 11, 2026. This specific revision cycle is strictly restricted to newly eligible 18-year-old voters. Unregistered citizens above this age group will be given an opportunity to enroll during the subsequent cycle in January.

Bilingual Forms Allowed: Clearing up confusion regarding language constraints, the DC clarified that enumeration forms can be filled out in either English or Kannada, noting that the original format of the form is in English. Furthermore, she explained that unlike previous revisions where omitted voters’ names were kept with a ‘Deleted’ stamp, this cycle involves building a brand-new electoral roll, meaning deleted names will be wiped off completely from the directory.

During the event, the DC released the June edition of the association’s magazine, Sanmati. The event was presided over by the Association President Subramanya G. Kurya, alongside Information Officer Manjunath, Harish Kundar, Ganesh Kalyanpur, Nazir Polya, Astro Mohan, and Rahim Ujire.
