Bagalkote, April 22, 2026: In a gruesome incident that has shocked Jamkhandi taluk of Bagalkote, a 36-year-old man was brutally murdered and set on fire along with his newly purchased car. The police have arrested five suspects in connection with the crime that turned a celebration into a horrific tragedy.

The deceased has been identified as Somu, also known as Somalingappa Padasalagi, a resident of Kannolli village. On Monday, Somu had purchased a new car in Jamkhandi and shared pictures from the showroom on his WhatsApp status. According to the police, the accused, who harbored a grudge against Somu over a personal dispute involving an illicit affair, saw the status and decided to ambush him on his way back.

The Ambush: Around 7:35 pm on Monday evening, the accused blocked Somu’s path near the Kannolli village bus stand. They dragged him out of the vehicle and stabbed him to death on the spot. After the murder, the attackers poured petrol over Somu’s body and his new car, setting both ablaze before fleeing the scene.

Arrests and Investigation: Following the incident, the Savalagi police launched an investigation and detained five individuals: Sadashiv Padasalagi, Ravi Patil, Mahaveer Dhareppanavar, Bhirappa Adihudi, and Mallu Navi. All five accused have been taken into custody. A ca
