KAUP/PADUBIDRI: A leisure trip turned into a legal nightmare for a group of students from Kerala after they were booked for creating a public nuisance near the Hejamady toll gate on Wednesday. The group, traveling in two private buses, caused a major traffic snarl by bursting crackers and dancing in the middle of the highway.

The Incident: The students, who were visiting Udupi, reportedly halted their buses right near the busy toll plaza. Stepping out onto the tarmac, they began an impromptu celebration, bursting loud firecrackers and dancing, much to the annoyance and danger of passing motorists. The chaotic scene disrupted the smooth flow of traffic on the critical Mangaluru-Udupi stretch.

Viral Outrage & Legal Action: As videos of the rowdy behavior began circulating on social media, citizens called for strict action against the “tourist nuisance.” Taking swift note of the viral footage, the Padubidri Police intervened to restore order and hold the miscreants accountable.

Case Details: The Padubidri police have officially registered a case under Crime Number 16/2026. The students have been booked under Section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter, endangering human life or safety.
